DRIVING


Trujillo is off the A5 trunk road (Carretera de Extremadura) connecting Madrid to Lisbon, 268km by road from Madrid airport

From the airport follow the signs to the circular M40 travelling south-west (clockise). You will eventually see signs for the Avenida de Extremadura / A5 to Badajoz

The road will take you directly to Trujillo. Look out for the turn off to your right 35km (approx) after crossing the only tunnel en-route

AIRPORT TRANSFER

We can organize inbound airport-to-hotel transfer by private car as an optional extra

Airport transfer is €69.00 per person for a minimum of 3 participants

This compares favourably with independent travel at €63.00 for the express coach and airport taxi (see below)

The rendezvous time and place can be modified in advance by unanimous agreement

There are excellent bus connections between Madrid and Trujillo

Buses leave Madrid from "Estación Sur" with several non-stop "Express" services daily

Single fares:

standard - €19.20 - €21 one-way

non-stop - €31.00 - €33 one-way

TAXI

This is our recommended option. Use only official taxis from the taxi rank

  • Cost: €30 flat fare
  • Average travel time: 20 minutes

If your Spanish is none too good print "Estación Sur De Autobuses, Mendez Álvaro" and show it to the driver


METRO

  • Travel time: 45-50 minutes
  • Ticket machines have an English language option and accept card payments

Getting to Mendez Álvaro station

  • Both T1-2-3 and T4 stations are on line 8
  • Change at Nuevos Ministerios to platform 2 for the circular line 6
  • Alight at Mendez Álvaro

Buses to Trujillo are operated by AutoRes, a subsidiary of AvanzaBus

You can buy your tickets on-line in advance from the AvanzaBus website

You will be asked to show proof of id on boarding


We recommend the

  • non-stop express services: 2h 40mins +
  • Semi-direct services: 3h 10 mins +

The stopping ("ruta") services make for a long journey time and we don't recommend them

at Mendez Alvaro bus station
